Click to enlarge Eight miles from Baltimore is the bustling little town of Skibbereen, well-known locally for the quality and variety of its many shops as well as the West Cork Arts Centre, the Heritage Centre and the little church at Abbystrowery with one of Ireland's largest famine graveyards.

A choice of challenging golf coursess are scattered throughout the area, the closest being Skibbereen's 18-hole course. Daily green fees may be purchased at the club house. But not only the town itself, also some of its fascinating surroundings are rich in intriguing places to visit ...

Nearby Skibbereen is a breathtaking drive from Glandore along its harbour through the pretty fishing village of Union Hall, or the historic, nowadays sleepy village of Castletownshend via Lough Ine nature reserve to Baltimore. Castletownshend was built in the mid 1600s by the Townshends and is the seat of the same-named family. A steeply inclined main street runs down to the castle, quayside and harbour. Click to enlarge

On the west side, Roaringwater Bay's coastline leads through Ballydehob and Schull to Mizen Head.
